Getting used to dentures:
Like anything new, dentures often take a little time to adjust. to. Taste is sometimes affected for a short time, although most of our taste buds are found on the tongue; some people report a gagging reflex for a little while and of course, the plate will feel big in the mouth to start with. Some people also report sore spots for a little while. This is often a matter of a 5 minute adjustment appointment with your dentist. All of these challenges will improve with time.
If you require a tooth/teeth removed, it is possible to have an immediate denture made—this is made before the extractions take place and placed the day the teeth are removed so that it is not even noticeable. The immediate denture may need a reline at some stage in the future as the gums heal and recede.
It usually takes a minimum of 4 appointments to have a denture made up (including shades, impressions, try-ins etc) before the technician makes the final product.
